A group of us from Florida were up visiting Franklin on the 16th and made the run over to Deal's Gap. We were on the NC side at the service station and stopped for a water before making the run. There were 7 Harleys and one Honda.
We chatted with a group of 4 riders from Michigan and they preceeded us on the ride by five minutes. Several other riders came and went including one lone female college student who had been on the road for 3 days and was headed home.
We started our ride but before we made the gap we were flagged down by a lady in an escort vehicle for several trucks that were heading toward Tennesee and came up on a wreck. She backed up and flagged down riders, for which we were very appreciative. The trucks she was escorting were the type used to pull mobile homes. Sure would hate to meet a mobile home on that ride. We eased on up to the wreck to see the Michigan boys down. The first two riders made it through and then a flat bed trailer going through the turns closed the road off for riders 3 and 4. Reports were that one had a broken arm and the other a broken collarbone. Both were lucky not to be more seriously hurt but unlucky to be caught by the truck. The wreck was no fault of their own.
We passed by on the dirt and eased on down to the overlook. After 30 minutes a state trooper came by, then 10 minutes later an ambulance, 10 minutes later another ambulance and after that a county trooper. The ambulances picked up the injured and started down the mountain about and hour and 15 minutes after the wreck.
