Tail of the Dragon spent a relaxing spring week touring the Outerbanks of NC. We chose the second week in March. The weather was good, a little chilly one day, but temps generally in the 60's. This is the off-season which gave us uncrowded roads, few tourists, and great rates. Many businesses and tourist attractions were closed for the off-season, but we found the uncrowded conditions far outweighed any inconvenience. The season begins in April and ends in September. We trailered our FZ-1's to Atlantic Beach, a barrier island just south of Morehead City. The trip from Graham County takes us about 9-1/2 hours, thats with a few stops. A must stop is at the Thorlo Outlet in Statesville - great motorcycle socks at outlet prices. We stayed one night at our favorite Atlantis Lodge, left our trailer in their parking lot, and took off for a three day tour. Returning to the Atlantis Lodge on day three, we spent the fourth day relaxing on the beach and then took a fun one day tour to Cape Lookout and the New Bern area on our fifth day.
