GUARDRAIL CLIFF
WE ARE POSTING THIS TO WARN RIDERS OF THIS DANGEROUS CURVE ON THE DRAGON WHERE WE HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS IN THE PAST TWO YEARS.

This is a view looking southerly (towards NC) at the scene of many recent accidents. We have named the corner Guardrail Cliff because of the steep drop off. Arrows indicate two different motorcycle accidents. Note that both marks are before the corner. Some riders have actually layed down farther into the corner, hitting the guard rail, probably caused by the off camber tilt in the south bound lane (see how the road dips towards the railing in the photo above). This corner is located at mile 4 of our Tail of the Dragon Map, CLICK HERE to view map.

This is looking northerly at the approach to Guardrail Cliff. We believe that many riders misjudge their speed through these ess curves as they approach this sharp corner as shown in top photo. Riders then overbrake, loose traction and lay down before entering the hard corner. The rider and bike then slide over the edge and down the steep embankment.

This picture shows the steepness of the drop off just a few feet from the edge of the road.

This photo is looking down the embankment. There is a a few feet of level ground about sixty feet down the embankment followed by another steep drop off. This photo does not show the steepness, but anybody sliding down this embankment would need a rope to get back up.

This ZX7R that was involved in the Saturday, April 27th accident at this location. The rider, Phillip age 26 of Greensboro NC, suffered a broken pelvis, several broken ribs, and bruised internal organs. He is lucky to be alive.
