DAY ONE
In early June 2009 Nancy and I saw a good opportunity to take a few days off. To give us a good excuse not to cancel she purchased tickets to Glenn Beck’s live Common Sense Show in Richmond, Virginia. Neither of us had ever been to Richmond and we were hungry to search-out some good big city food.
To insure some good riding on the trip we took the Fun Mover and camped at the Natural Bridge KOA north of Roanoke and in close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway. When making the reservation we learned that the KOA managers were riders too and had been to the Dragon. We brought them some goodies and invited them back.
We arrived at the KOA in late afternoon and relaxed by the campfire with a couple of drinks. It was Friday and the place was packed with families and kids. So a jump in the pool was not too inviting. The campground was about what you’d expect with small but adequate pull-throughs with quite a few trees. There were a number of other bikers tent camping, staying in the small cabins and even in motor homes. We guessed the Blue Ridge Parkway helped to bring them in. |
